Jessie Phalen, R.N. Pursues Certified Diabetes Educator Status

Reedsburg Physicians Group is pleased to announce an addition to the Diabetes Education Staff. Jessie Phalen, R.N. has been with Reedsburg Physicians Group for over 10 years working as a physician support nurse. She is currently pursuing certification as a diabetic educator.

The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators requires a registered nurse to have a minimum of 1,000 hours of professional practice experience in diabetes self-management education before applying for certification. To meet this goal Jessie is currently seeing patients with diabetes and pre-diabetic symptoms to counsel them in the many aspects of diabetes self-management, including diet, exercise and medication management.

Jessie states, "I am committed to helping patients learn more about their diabetes so it can be better managed and ultimately decrease the likelihood of complications. I work together with the patient, Dee Helgeson, Certified Diabetic Educator, and the primary care physician to create a plan for diabetes care."

Currently, Jessie is available to see Reedsburg Physicians Group patients on Thursdays from 9:00 to 5:00 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling the Reedsburg Physicians Group appointment desk at 608-524-8611.
